What lies before you is one of the most legendary teas of all time. The tale begins many centuries ago with a water well in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Situated in the town square surrounded by rows of houses, the well, named the Longjing, had long been considered the source of the purest water in all the village. The water which flowed from it was cool, crystal clear, and reputed to have therapeutic benefits. But it wasn't until an arid, sweltering summer that the true power of the well came to be known.
In that year, although the exact dates have been lost to the mists of time, hot weather and a lack of rain led to one of the worst droughts the region had ever seen. Wells far and wide dried up, leaving villagers desperate for cool water to drink. Miraculously, the Longjing well continued to produce water. Strangely, the worse the famine became, the more water the people of Hangzhou were able to draw. Now, in those days it was believed in China that rain and water was controlled by powerful dragons. And so the well came to be known as the Dragon Well, owing to the notion that the source of the well must in fact be home to a dragon. A local tea farmer, in order to give thanks to the dragon that had saved the town, determined to name his best tea in remembrance of the dragon - Dragonwell tea was born. As the years progressed, the legend of Dragonwell tea spread throughout China, and as international maritime trade took hold, the world.
To this day, Dragonwell continues to impress tea masters from all corners of the globe. According to many, Dragonwell is one of the finest green teas available anywhere on the planet. The leaf is traditionally processed by hand, roasted to perfection and graded meticulously. When you try a cup for yourself, you too shall see why it is worthy of being named for the dragons of legend.
